What is the Hyundai Smart Air Purification System?
In May of 2019, Hyundai announced the next level in their air purification development. The Smart Air Purification System combines prior research in improving in-car filtration, with an active monitoring system that continually checks air quality. The system uses laser-based sensors to check for fine particles in the air entering the cabin and then catches them using advanced filters designed to remove 99% of airborne particulates. The system also features a charcoal filtration system that helps to remove odors and give the air in your vehicle a fresh and neutral smell. In all, the Hyundai Smart Air Purification System looks to improve the comfort of all passengers, and especially those with asthma or allergies.
The grading system for air quality is based on the Korea Environmental Corporation Standard and designates air quality as Excellent, Good, Fair and Poor according to the number of particulates. The Smart Air Purification System will work to maintain an Excellent air quality standard within the cabin regardless of Fair or Poor rating outside the vehicle due to pollen or pollutants. Automation is a key part of this smart system. Options for being able to purify the air in the vehicle before you even open the doors for your trip, or track cabin air quality on your vehicle's audio-video navigation (AVN) screen are in development as well.
